My First Letter from the mailman
was a letter addressed to me from Santa
by: Pamela Price Svoboda
I remember when I was a little girl how excited I was when I received my first letter from Santa. In fact I believe it was the first letter that I ever got from the mailman so that made it even more exciting. I remember how this letter stood out over all the other envelopes in the stack of mail that we received that day. I remember how the mailman handed over all the mail to Mother and gave her a thumbs up. As always Mother always handed the mail to me so I could carry it the rest of the way to the house.
"Wow Mother, look how beautiful this letter is that came today." My Mother looked down at it and replied to me.... "Pam this letter is addressed to you!" When my Mother told me that it was from the North Pole and it was addressed to to me, I can still remember how my heart started to race. I knew that only Santa lived at the North Pole and this must be a letter from him. The most beautiful envelope I had ever seen and it was addressed to me. I turned around and waved my proud moment to the mailman as he pulled away waving and smiling ear to ear. I think Santa must of told him that he was writing to me.
Sure enough!!!! It was from Santa!!!
I'm pretty sure that Mother also knew about this important step in my life too because on the stove was Mothers best homemade chocolate cocoa simmering and waiting for us. When we went in the kitchen she opened her cabinet door and pulled out the real old fashioned mint sticks that were only used for special occasions. When I saw Mother placing one mint stick in each cocoa cup.... I knew..... Sure enough!!!! It was from Santa!!!
As I looked over the envelope, not daring to open it yet. Mother pored the cocoa in our mugs that already contained the mint sticks. For extra sweetness I watched her drop small miniature marshmallows on top of it too. The smell of the sweet hot cocoa was just heaven to me. I lay the red and green envelope down flat on the table but never took my eyes off of it. I smelled the wonderful aroma of chocolate and I wrapped my cold hands around it. After I stared at the front of the envelope for a while I turned it over and stared at the back. Mother said..... are you going to open it?
I opened the beautiful envelope ever so careful as if it was made of fine thin glass. The beautiful colors of the letter was the best I had ever seen before. When I peeked inside...... wow! Magic dust confetti was inside as well! Mother and I talked about the magic of Santa and his helpful elves. Mother explained to me the importance of being good and making Santa and God proud of me. I think I held it and read it over and over and over. I loved Santa and I believed in Santa very much.

That first letter from the mailman that day made a lasting memory for me at a very early age and I still remember it to this day. In fact.... I kept that letter from Santa all those years ago and as a grown woman I still have it today. by: Pamela Price Svoboda
