What is a Cat Party?
A cat party can be for just the cats, for cats and their owners or a party just for the cat owners themselves. Either way cat parties for cat lovers are great fun. It's a good thing to do when you devote a bit of time to your cats and give them a special day. And if the party is a cat awareness party then those are fun too! If you've never had a cat party before you really should give it a try! Below we will list many ideas for all the types of cat parties we mentioned above. Have Fun!
Different Ideas
- Cat entertainment for the party: The picture above is a good example of cats being entertained by what they can see. Cats love to watch birds, squirrels, mice or fish. The important thing to remember is make sure the cats "cannot" reach any of these animals and harm them. Cats are natural hunters. If you are having a party where both cat and owner is invited it's traditional to offer some type of entertainment for the cats. A fish tank works great with a way for cats to sit and circles all the way around the tank. Even a temporary child's swimming pool with live minnows from a fish & tackle store works great. (Don't forget to put a air bubbler in) They have fun following the fish. Another great idea is putting out a bird feeder just a couple of feet away from a window. Do this a couple of week before the party so birds will have a chance to find the feeder in time for the party. On the day of the party fill the bird feeder and put a bench next to the window (or a cat tree) for the cats to sit on. Not only is this fun for the cats but it's great fun for the owner to bird watch as well. You can do the same for a squirrel feeder if you have squirrels in your area. All of these ideas are really fun and kids get a real big kick out of it too.
- Donations: A large number of cat parties are planned for a special purpose of donating money to a good animal cause. This is done by simply placing a donation bowl on the party table with the name of the cause it's going to. For example: the humane society. Some parties are larger in scale and are put on by these animal organizations and the whole party is for the soul purpose of making money for the cause. Either way, it doesn't matter if your having a fun community cat party at home or you belong to an awareness organizations; setting up a bowl to feed the cats in a shelter for a day is a great thing to do.
- Picnic for cat & owner: This idea is for someone who what's to do something special for their cat but not interested in inviting guest over. Why not try a nice little cat picnic? Lay a blanket down on the ground in a safe and secure place in your back yard. Let your cat lay and cuddle on the blanket along side of you and take little cat naps with you. Pack a little picnic lunch for you and your cat- Give your cat his or her favorite treat or favorite can of cat food.
- Homemade Cat Treats: Most all cat parties have cat treats to give to the guest as a parting gift or door prize. If cats are invited then the bag of treats are given to the cats. It can be store bought treats or homemade treats. Either way, cats love cat treats and you really can't have a cat party without special treat.
- Cat Treat Baking Parties: Ohhh yes these are very popular! Cat owners often get together and make cat treats and share new homemade cat food recipes. The cats are usually not invited to treat baking parties because the owners are putting all of their attention in mixing, molding and baking. The cats get the special treats when the owner gets back home. Usually as part of the baking party it's traditional to bake and share some treats with cats in need or organizations that would take your homemade donation. It would really thrill a lonely cat in a cage to get a special food treat.
- Cat Costumes: Cat parties can be a lot of fun when it's a cat costume party. You can even dress up cats to look like people- Just keep in mind keep your pets safe-
- Cat Parties on National Cat day is celebrated just as you would celebrate a Christmas party- Cats get gifts that they get to open, (do wrap the gift because cats love to tear open paper) food for both the cat and people are served and games are played too.
- Party Food: There are tons of cat treat recipes on the Internet that you can serve to cats but lets talk about some ideas for the people- It's a lot of fun to serve food that's in the shape of a cat. The most popular at all cat parties is a cake made in the shape of a cake or even cupcakes. Cupcakes can be fun because you can make each one in the shape of a cats head and each cupcake can be a different color. If your serving mashed potatoes or potato salad its easy to shape it into a cat and serve in on a platter. Meatloaf is another food item that can be cooked in a cat mold and decorated with catchup or meat sauce and placed on a platter. Potatoes and meatloaf makes for a great Cat Dinner Party. If your looking for finger food, then a cheese ball shaped to look like a cat is perrrrfect! Don't forget the popular PAW shape either! And last but not least... you can't have a cat party without candy mice or fish crackers! Use your imagination- I bet you can think up plenty of cat related foods- Have Fun!
- Party Gifts: It's traditional to give either welcome gifts or parting gifts to guests but not a must. They don't have to be anything expensive at all, just a type of thank you for coming gift. For a cat party it could be a small bag of treats for the cat, a small toy mouse or even a helpful information pamphlet. For your next cat party why not give everyone a welcome gift that lists all the plants poisonous to cats? It's valuable information and cat lovers would appreciate it. It's a great gift idea!

Who's in the Picture?
These beautiful cats are having an afternoon of bird watching. Bird feeders hang from tall hooks in the shrubs and a bird bath is placed right in front of the window so the cats can get a good view. They are having a lot of fun watching the birds splash water as they flip and flutter while taking their bird baths.
